Spring into a Conference or Two

Like flowers in winter, the literary conference scene tends to wither and shrivel away to non-existence, and so it's always a pleasure to see the blooming of festivals and conferences that start in late February. Spring in the D.C. area this year seemed to happen overnight, as if someone flipped the "on" switch, but fortunately, the conferences are spread out a bit more.

Murder in the Magic City, Sleuthfest, and Left Coast Crime are all behind us now, but coming up this weekend is the Public Library Association National Conference and also Scene of the Crime. PLA this year in Portland, Oregon, features a luncheon with Scott Turow and an Audio Publishers Association Dinner with Chelsea Cain, Sue Grafton, Judy Kaye, and Marcia Muller.

Scene of the Crime, in Wichita, Kansas, is a conference for writers who want to hone their craft, so the speakers include authors, publishing industry experts and law enforcement personnel.
