Otto Penzler has a new anthology coming out via
Random House (under its Vintage imprint), the first collection of
original espionage fiction yet published. It's a project he's been
trying to get off the ground for years, but has been on hold for various
reasons. Titled Agents of Treachery, it includes 14 previously unpublished stories: Lee Child with a look at the formation of a special ops cell; James Grady writing about an Arab undercover FBI agent with an active cell; Joseph Finder riffing on a Boston architect who's convinced his Persian neighbors are up to no good; John Lawton concocting a Len Deighton-esque story about British intelligence; Stephen Hunter with a tale about a WWII brigade; and other great offerings by Dan Fesperman, Andrew Klavan, Gayle Lynds, Charles McCarry, David Morrell,
Stella Rimington, Olen Steinhauer, John Weisman and Robert Wilson. Penzler's bookstore, The Mysterious Bookshop
will have a few limited-edition copies available in April signed by all
the contributors, which is hardcover with a leather spine and marbled
boards, printed on high-quality paper. If that's a little too rich for
your blood, the trade paperback version comes out in June.
