Hardcover Mysteries

On Monday, September 20th, David Baldacci, Sandra Brown and Kathy Reichs will be at the Library of Congress discussing the real-life cases and investigations that inspired their fictional works. It's a prelude to the National Book Festival and also part of a media push by co-sponsor Investigation Discovery, one of the Discovery Channel's family of networks, to tie in with a new series titled Hardcover Mysteries that will profile eight different novelists, including Baldacci, Brown and Reichs, along with Harlan Coben, Linda Fairstein, Sara Paretsky, Lisa Scottoline and Joseph Wambaugh.

Each episode of the show pairs an author "with a real-life case close to their heart, whether it inspired one of their own creations, mirrors the themes presented in their bestsellers or resonates with their personal life story," according to the press release. For example, in the episode featuring Baldacci, he examines the 1964 murder of Mary Meyer, a Washington D.C. socialite and confidante to President John F. Kennedy, part of the basis for his first best-seller, Absolute Power.
