Edgar Allan Poe Poe lived in this house at 203 Amity Street in Baltimore, Maryland, with his aunt, her mother and his cousin Virginia from 1833 until 1835. It is thought he wrote several poems and stories there, and until now, the house has been preserved as a museum. But due to budget problems, Baltimore cut the $85,000 in support it gave the Poe House for the second year in a row, and the museum may be forced to close. Carolyn Kellogg of the Los Angeles Times wondered if perhaps the upcoming Poe resurgence might be able to save it, with two movies (The Raven and Twixt) and a potential TV series all featuring the author. Until then, you can help by signing a petition and/or making a donation to the Support the Poe House fund.
